What is Tidal Homeschooling?

my two oldest girls, very young, silhouetted against a twilight sky and blue hills

In 2006, a year after I began this blog, I coined the term Tidal Homeschooling to describe my family’s homeschooling style, an ebb and flow of
high tide (planned, Charlotte Mason-ish) and low tide (unschoolish, delight directed) learning. You’ll sometimes see me call it Tidal Learning. Seventeen years later (and counting), the metaphor still works. At the time of this writing (January 2023), I’m enjoying tidal homeschooling with Huck and Rilla, my two youngest, now in their teens.

If you’d like to read more about tidal homeschooling, there are a bunch of posts at this link.
