The thing is, one can have a (variation of) gluten-intolerance, or a wheat allergy, and not have celiac. I don't know that the celiac blood test is unreliable, exactly, just ... a test result in the negative range doesn't always mean one doesn't have it. Having further tests (upper GI exam) is generally considered a good idea. My daughter, sister, niece and I all have celiac. My step-father has a non-celiac gluten intolerance. My elder son was deathly allergic to wheat but out-grew that by puberty. All very confusing to diagnose, at times.

Sarah, how did they finally determine your daughter had a gluten intolerance? I've been reading up ever since reading your comment (and another nice reader sent me some helpful thoughts along the same lines), and I'm wondering if celiac or some kind of gluten intolerance isn't the problem after all. I hadn't realized the blood test could be so unreliable. This is a good lead to pursue. We're seeing G/I next week and I'll be asking LOTS of questions.

And by the way, does it not amaze you and yours that your little chunk of beef gets all those calories from Mama? Wow!

At "They wouldn't validate my parking," you had me ready to fly to California to pick you up. Good GRIEF!

As mom to a former side of beef (who is quite a slim and handsome 19 yo, with no penny-chins), I feel your stroller-pushing pain.

Methinks a letter re the website - perhaps even with an enclosure of this blog entry - would be appropriate.

In your spare time.
