“Wargames” was fun. Sorry, but I was a Soviet Studies major at the time and remember laughing at “THe Day After..” I like the ideas for your daughter–the poem is not one I had read before. Thanks for the post.

Once upon a time I read Bradbury voraciously but I think I was too young. Or maybe not really. I couldn’t have been younger than Jane.

Anyhow, it looks different to me now. I re-read The Veldt last year. Oh so eerie in ways I couldn’t have appreciated as a child. I see and appreciate nuances that I’d never have understood back then. I suppose I should go back and re-read and re-discover my favorites. Lucky you and Scott to have Jane to help you see them again.

Isn’t it funny, looking back at SF from that era? When I re-read Robert Heinlein’s The Moon is a Harsh Mistress as an adult, one of the things that struck me was the continued use of typewriters. They’ve built a thriving lunar colony and a computer so complex that it comes alive, but they can’t build a word processor.

I think I read After the Bomb as a child. I don’t know that it was great literature, but it was terrifying. And Alas Babylon as well. I do remember the passages you posted. I don’t remember reading them for the first time, but the words have stayed in my head.
