Giddy as Charged

Margaret just posted the most awesome recap of our Betsy-Tacy tour with Kathy Baxter. Do you see how lucky I was to visit Mankato in the company of two such warm and wonderful women?
(And I think I need to bring Maggie along on all my trips—her photos are a wonder in themselves.)

Margaret & me outside Betsy’s house. Of course she couldn’t take this one herself—I think Bob Brown had her camera for this one?

The camera is a Nikon D80 and the photo-editing I do at Picnik (my favorite action these days being a low dose of “boost”). The radiant smile and sparkling eyes, however, are ALL Lissa’s.

PS. I almost forgot! Thank you for letting me tag along on the day trip to Mankato! And thank you especially for introducing me (and through me, my daughters) to the Betsy-Tacy books. We are extremely grateful.

Christie, that “struggling with her inner Hermione” line made me LOL for real. Margaret is so right–I really was!
Penny, I kept getting all teary-eyed and grinny at the same time. I shrieked at the sight of the brass bowl. And the bench!
Margaret, your presence was a big part of my smile. I’m so happy you were along for the ride. I’m kind of jealous that you get to read all the books for the first time—what a delight you have ahead!

GREEN WITH ENVY.
How lovely that you had someone with a great sense of humor along to document your trip — like a very friendly and intimate paparazzi!

And you should’ve seen Ramona’s face just now when she saw you sitting on THE BENCH! Wow, wow, wow!

I’m so glad you got to do this! What a wonderful experience. (I laughed at the “inner Hermione” bit, too. Perfect description!)

Wow. What bliss for a Betsy-Tacy fan! Mankato has been high (um…first!) on my list of literary destinations for years. No wonder you were shrieking and grinning.
And how wonderful to share it with such great company!

Melissa,
Thanks for you sharing pictures from your trip! It was so exciting to see everything through your eyes.
I am getting ready to post a few last blog posts about MHL and all things Maud. I wanted to include a picture of Carney’s Sleeping Porch and saw you had a picture. Could I have your permission to include the picture in my post if I link to your other pictures from the trip, or to this blog post and give you credit?
Thanks for considering.

Sarah, you are welcome to use any of my pictures! (They’re at Flickr, for those of you who haven’t seen them yet. Coming soon to the blog…) Of course Margaret’s photos blow mine out of the water! Her photography is as fabulous as her sense of humor.
The sleeping porch was one of the things that affected me the most deeply—I could almost hear the girls up there whispering and giggling.
