Scott picked one of his favorite picture books for the bedtime read-aloud: Mary Pope Osborne’s lovely Moonhorse.
I can’t believe I forgot to include it in last year’s list of super moon books!

We loved the supermoon. My daughter wanted to write a story about it, and we’ve been working on it together all week. It’s been a wonderful treat to work on elements of story writing together (she’s nine) while celebrating our memories of that gorgeous moon. She’s decided to call the moon character Luna (but of course) — and once in a great while, Luna gets superpowers!
And I wrote this little poem in honor of the evening…
The supermoon
ascends silently,
slides past cloudbank,
seams a silver lining,
then stands sentinel over
sighing sycamores…
and shines.
