The Deputy Headmistress has written a lovely and concise Charlotte Mason tutorial. I’m going to put this link in my sidebar for easy reference for those who are curious about what CM is all about.

I would also recommend a visit to Mater Amabilis and the purchase of Elizabeth Foss’s excellent book, Real Learning.

In 2006, a year after I began this blog, I coined the term Tidal Homeschooling to describe my family’s homeschooling style, an ebb and flow of
high tide (planned, Charlotte Mason-ish) and low tide (unschoolish, delight directed) learning. You’ll sometimes see me call it Tidal Learning. Seventeen years later (and counting), the metaphor still works. At the time of this writing (January 2023), I’m enjoying tidal homeschooling with Huck and Rilla, my two youngest, now in their teens.
