Almost Forgot

About to post about squeeeee new books pubbing tomorrow—but remembered I forgot to share the link to the new Thicklebit! So here’s that. Oh, sure, the children may look angelic, but really it’s Lord of the Flies around here. Er, there. In that TOTALLY FICTIONAL family full of TOTALLY FICTIONAL children who just happen by TOTAL COINCIDENCE to say things I’ve chronicled in the Bonny Glen archives over the years. I mean, you can tell it’s fiction because the mother has red hair. I don’t have red hair, now do I?*

*It’s possible that when Chris Gugliotti was doing the first sketches for the characters, I mentioned that I’d always wanted to be a redhead, hint hint. But you can’t prove it.

Mellow Monday

Last week was a workworkwork week and this weekend was a familyfamilyfamily weekend, and now it’s a new week and they’ve combined. My parents came to town for Rose’s birthday, hurrah! They’ve got most of the kids on an outing right now; Jane left for another trip yesterday. Scott is at the other end of the house, writing away. There’s a pleasant hush in this room, punctuation by construction noises from the house across the street. My neighbor has a major landscaping project underway. Ha, I wrote the word “hush,” which seems to have been the cue for the jackhammer portion of the job. Forget hush, now it’s whirr and rattle.

Anyway. I wanted to round up some links:

A new Thicklebit, starring a herd of My Little Ponies.

My latest for GeekMom: Alleyoop Partners with NASA and National Geographic to Bring STEM to Your Teen’s Screen.

Excellent short post by Chris O’Donnell pointing to another very good post, both about the importance of owning your own little corner of the web. I preach this all the time to other writers. Don’t just pour your words into the Facebook river, or Twitter, or Google+. Those platforms and others like them are wonderful for making and maintaining connections, and goodness knows I enjoy them. (When they aren’t making me sputter with their shenanigans.) I love dropping by Facebook to visit friends and family. But I will always, always, be glad I have Bonny Glen to come back home to.

The rest will wait—I think my gang just rolled back home!

Today’s Thicklebit comic is a particular favorite of mine…you may have heard the story here on Bonny Glen at some point. πŸ™‚

And I was delighted to read my fellow GeekMom writer Amy Kraft’s take on Thicklebit at Wired today:

Each comic features one of those weird little moments. You know the ones I mean. Your kid says something strange and hilarious and you think, β€œHow did I get here, in this moment, in this situation?”

We appreciate the shout-out!

In case you missed it, Scott wrote a post last week about how Thicklebit came into being. (I earned the title of webpixie over there because I’m always sneaking into his site and uploading pictures and reviews, since he never does it himself. Β Ahem.)

A non-Thicklebit piece of news: tomorrow, yippee!, is launch day for Fox and Crow Are Not Friends. So excited to get to share it with everyone. But more on that tomorrow…

It’s Thursday, so that means a new Thicklebit. I like Thursdays. πŸ™‚

I was looking for something in my archives and stumbled upon a very old post that made me smile. 2005, so let’s see…Beanie was about 4 1/2? Rose would’ve been about 7, Jane not quite 10. And they’re all still so exactly like the girls in this post. Just, you know, OLD.

Via my friend Phoebe: This castle is for sale in Ireland. If you loved me, you would buy it for me.

My friend Kathy Ceceri’s very cool Robotics book is now available in paperback. Includes a lot of DIY how-to: seriously fun stuff there.

Thursday means a new Thicklebit.

This week, it also meant a morning at the park. I took a zillion sundrenched photos of happy kids running wild under the old trees and along the grassy paths, but at the end of the day my favorite is this rather melancholy shot of my two youngest, exhausted by freedom.

How was your day?

Late July News

I know, I know, I’ve been AWOL! When’s the last time I went a week without posting here? (I know when: summer of 2005, when Wonderboy had surgery. Yeesh.) Well, my absence here is because I’m plugging away elsewhere…sometimes the supply of words is limited, you know? πŸ™‚

But a few bits of news:

β€’ A new strip at Into the Thicklebit

β€’ A lovely Kirkus review of my friend Anne Marie Pace’s about-to-launch picture book, Vampirina Ballerina, illustrated by the talented LeUyen Pham.

β€’ Vampirina shares a pub date (August 7) with my early reader, Fox and Crow Are Not Friends. It got a nice review at Kirkus, too (yippee!), which is now viewable by everyone, not just subscribers. πŸ™‚

β€’ This month, my upcoming Inch and Roly series gets the spotlight at the Ready-to-Read website, including a letter from me to readers. Whee!
