Five Years Ago? Not Possible.

In the days before Facebook, I had a little side-blog where I posted pictures for my parents and in-laws and close friends. Poor little blog, it has been long neglected. I was thinking of this picture yesterday, from a trip we made to Williamsburg, Virginia, in the fall of 2005. Rose would have been about seven years old, and Beanie was going on five.

In 2006, a year after I began this blog, I coined the term Tidal Homeschooling to describe my family’s homeschooling style, an ebb and flow of
high tide (planned, Charlotte Mason-ish) and low tide (unschoolish, delight directed) learning. You’ll sometimes see me call it Tidal Learning. Seventeen years later (and counting), the metaphor still works. At the time of this writing (January 2023), I’m enjoying tidal homeschooling with Huck and Rilla, my two youngest, now in their teens.
