Me, happening upon a small boy industriously wielding a feather duster on the bookcases: “Wow! Thank you!”

Huck, a certain gleam in his eye: “I need lots of dust so I can shake it in Rilla’s face.”

CLEARLY this is the MOST IMPORTANT THING about dusting: shaking it off on your sister’s head. Obviously, I need to dust more/better/differently.

In 2006, a year after I began this blog, I coined the term Tidal Homeschooling to describe my family’s homeschooling style, an ebb and flow of
high tide (planned, Charlotte Mason-ish) and low tide (unschoolish, delight directed) learning. You’ll sometimes see me call it Tidal Learning. Seventeen years later (and counting), the metaphor still works. At the time of this writing (January 2023), I’m enjoying tidal homeschooling with Huck and Rilla, my two youngest, now in their teens.
