Jane comes home from nature studies camp, soot-streaked and beaming.

Me: “Did you have a good time?”

Jane, jubilantly: “We made FIRES!”

I guess that would be a yes.

What is it about fire? My brother-in-law does a bonfire with the kids every Thanksgiving, and that always seems to be the thing they’re most thankful for.
Love those sooty faces, though.
