Hephaestus, Probably, Because He Always Seemed Kind of Sweet

I love the way Beanie talks to me about books. She peppers me with questions sparked by her own deep immersion in the narrative.

“Mom, how would you feel if your best friend betrayed you and then he fell off a cliff?”

“Mom, if you were the child of a Greek god, which one would you rather be the child of?”

“Mom, how would you like it if you had only one eye and you were a really ugly Cyclops?”

Any guesses what she’s reading, by the way? (It occurs to me that first question may well be a spoiler. If so, I apologize. I haven’t read the book in question yet. It—like its companions in the series—comes highly recommended by Beanie’s big sisters. Someday, O TBR Pile, someday…)

Sounds to me like she’s reading PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS series. Great books [and if she isn’t, it’s a great series and your girls would probably love it]. Just finished them [at the reccomendation of my 8 yo nephew] myself. Gave me lots to think about concerning where words come from in modern language.

We just got this one for my oldest. My husband is reading it to him and he’s loving it! He’s never (and I mean never) loved hearing a book before. I’m so delighted.

We were having awfully similar conversations at my house this spring. I’m guessing Percy Jackson too!

I remember thinking I had struck homeschooling gold when my kids started making Pokemon style cards with the Greek gods as the characters…They inventes a game to go with it. I mean, really, who or what could have cooler powers and attributes?

How do you answer those questions?
