Gone Finishin’
Oh, my poor blog, I miss it so. I can’t come back yet, not with full attention, not until I finish this thing I’ve been trying to finish for ages and ages and ages. But I know I’ll mourn the lost entries, later. The Perseids last night; the new bird we spotted today—new to us, at least—a female Scott’s oriole (appropriate, right? and Scott saw it first); the fire! Good gravy, the fire behind our next-door neighbor’s back yard! There’s an easement between our back fence and the neighboring schoolyard. Some kids driving by tossed a firecracker into that small strip of land and caused a brush fire. It spread along our neighbor’s cinderblock wall and had traveled several feet in our direction when another neighbor spotted the blaze. The first we knew about it was when the firetruck’s blinking lights ornamented our living-room wall. It was nearly midnight at this point, night before last. The firefighters said our neighbor’s fine wall prevented the flames from spreading forward into his yard. The fire was still three or four feet away from our wooden fence when they put it out. Three or four feet, she says airily, like that isn’t terrifyingly nothing in a dry San Diego August.
Okay, well, I guess I blogged that incident after all.
Jane comes home to us this week after her fabulous summer in Austin. We can’t wait. š
More when I can. New Thicklebit tomorrow! Which reminds me: we reached another milestone a few weeks ago. It was so long and gradual in manifesting that it kind of snuck up on me. For the first time since 1995, I have no children in diapers. Just: wow.
Ohh—a final note—I finally got around to setting up a redirect at my old Typepad site. I left that site live for all these years because of the many incoming links that still see traffic there; I was hesitant to cause so many broken links on other people’s sites. But I moved here to WordPress over five years ago; I think it’s time to let that one fade away, broken links or no. All the posts and comments are here, of course—have been here from the get-go. But sometimes Google still directs people to the old site. So now, if you click one of those links, you’ll wind up on a redirect page here and may have to use the search box to find the page you’re looking for. If you can’t find it, give me a holler and I’ll help.

Glad y’all are safe! We’ve had several fires around here this summer too…though none quite as close as what you experienced.
I really just dropped in to tell you that I love Into the Thicklebit. What a fun and creative venture! My favorites are the Things I Thought I’d Never Need to Say…pretty sure all moms can relate to that;)
