I’m playing with my sidebars again. Not finished yet, but I’ve run out of time for tonight. Just popping in to say hi. Hi!

(You may need to clear your cache to see the new header image. Which is actually an old header image. Sort of.)

Hi! πŸ™‚ The sidebars look great.

Thank you! I have so much still to do. πŸ™‚ Fix some font inconsistencies & stuff. But I’m happy with how it’s coming along. If anything looks wonky or is loading weird, let me know!

can i make a request? would you consider making your tags/categories visible in the sidebar? i’ve been poking around, guessing at categories…and having good luck. but i know there are ones that i’m not thinking of + would really love. if not, i’ll keep searching along!

(i was going to email, but since we’re right here i might as well ask my question πŸ˜‰ i was wondering if you’ve written anything about burnout…or more positively about how long you’ve been homeschooling, keeping it fresh, etc.)

just yesterday i was looking at stuff you had written about Math-U-See + found a wonderful piece about the suck/swallow reflex. we were all so fascinated! made me want some gummy bears!

sorry for taking over the com box. love the pops of color in the sidebar.

Colors are good πŸ™‚ You know me, my poor eyes are never happy with fields of white πŸ™‚

Oh! You know, it’s probably an iPad thing?, nought to do with your settings, but the header photo is *never* as wide as the full page (meaning width of posting body + width of sidebars = wider than the header). But maybe it is a settings thing?

Seconding Kortney asking about long term homeschooling πŸ™‚

    {{hugs}} and yay smilies! πŸ™‚

Ellie, that header issue has been driving me crazy for a while. On non-mobile screens, the header is centered (though the last header was actually a little off center, and that too drove me nuts, but I finally figured out the fix for it last night. Sort of. I had to make the header smaller and now it isn’t jibing quite right with the sidebar. And looks even more out of whack in mobile than it did before.) What I REALLY need is to switch to a responsive theme (more mobile-friendly) but that is a bigger change than I can do on my own.

Kortney, I’m LOLing now because I don’t know what I did with my category list/tag cloud!! I’m sure it used to be there. This theme isn’t widget-enabled (which would be an easy fix) so I’ll have to hunt around and find out what happened. I probably lifted out the code and forgot to return it. HOWEVER (and I can add a mention of this in the sidebar) if you click the ARCHIVES button and scroll down that page, I have “archives by subject,” which is to say categories. A caveat, though: my categories need a serious clean-up job! Another thing on my list of get-around-to-someday. πŸ˜‰

And now I’m shaking my head because I see I used the wrong “Caught my eye” button over thereβ€”at first I had big buttons with white text and then I switched to smaller buttons with black text. Except on that one. πŸ™‚

When I asked Scott if it bugged him that the text (because of the font I chose) floats a little high on the ribbon in the header image, he said, “Not a bit. And anyway you know you’ll be changing it in a few weeks, so why obsess over it now?” LOL. It’s possible he knows me a little bit. πŸ˜‰

Oh, also! Thanks Kortney & Ellie for the topic suggestions! I LOVE when you do that.

  7. Melissa Wiley says:

Okey dokey! I added a category list to the bottom of the sidebar. πŸ™‚ Formatting needs tweaking. Don’t like the double-spacing & it would look better centered under the label. More things for me to play with later. πŸ™‚

Loving your new sidebar stuff! And loving Kortney and Ellie’s idea about a long term/homeschooling post. I’m in a weird/adjustment phase, with just one girl left to homeschool. πŸ™‚ Looking at where to start over, where to refresh, etc.

  9. Ellie says:

Karen, I knew I would homeschool before I ever had kids, so philosophically I have been a homeschooler at heart for close to thirty years (um …) and with my eldest having been homeschooled all the way through and now being 25 years old (um ….) that means I’ve been homeschooling in a day to day sense for 20 years (um …..!) and with the 12 and 15 year olds going strong I would love to read others’ experiences and thoughts on the long term homeschooling life and I suppose I should just go ahead a write my own!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

thanks for pointing me to the archives tab…i was looking only under the “memory lane” tab. archives by subject–perfect! and really, it’s the non-cleaned up categories that i want. i love that special, crazy serendipity that connects and unravels and enlightens.

peace keep you all this weekend.

I love the idea of a long term homeschooling post. So count me as a third vote. (I’ll be popping over to read Ellie’s post too. Of course.)

Oh and I do love that header.

And the sidebars. Seeing your Caught Me Eye lists, I’m remembering how much I miss Google Reader and being able to subscribe to your links feed. My blog reading has never really recovered after the demise of Reader. Alas.
