Memory lane

I found this picture while looking for something else. Taken December, 2003, I think: caught in the act of dress-up. Jane, Rose, and Beanie would have been about 7, 4, and 2 years old. I’m struck by how much Beanie looks like Huck! Not just in this photo, but the whole batch. And Rose could be Rilla. And actually, put a curly wig on young Jane and you’d have another Beanie. Amazing how different their personalities are, considering the physical overlaps.

In 2006, a year after I began this blog, I coined the term Tidal Homeschooling to describe my family’s homeschooling style, an ebb and flow of
high tide (planned, Charlotte Mason-ish) and low tide (unschoolish, delight directed) learning. You’ll sometimes see me call it Tidal Learning. Seventeen years later (and counting), the metaphor still works. At the time of this writing (January 2023), I’m enjoying tidal homeschooling with Huck and Rilla, my two youngest, now in their teens.
