I think the lesson here is that I should be kept far, far, far away from the kitchen during the week taxes are due. Tonight it was the asparagus: I put some in a pot to steam in a little water, and then somewhere between buttering the bread and slicing the red bell pepper, I forgot about it. For a good twenty minutes.

Puree, anyone?

    At least the water didn’t all boil away and the asparagus burn to the bottom of the pan.

    …yeah. What laurajean said. There’s not a lot worse than the smell of scorched asparagus…

    This is why kitchen timers are my friends. We own about half a dozen. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve scorched pans and ruined food.
